Eye Onthe Storm

Another classic case of on paper a moderately performed broodbitch producing a star race dog.

Eye Onthe Storm (Droopys Vieri x Bower Louise)

Droopys Vieri a top line sire, but the dam Bower Louise bares a much closer look than just her moderate race card suggests.

Bower Louise (Bower Major x Bower Tina) - Bower Major was a moderatley performed race dog at best. But, on closer inspection and as mentioned a number of times in earlier articles on this site, in this case Bower Major traces back in tail line to immortal broodbitches Lemon Soda and Skipping Chick. Not to mention carrying immortal broodbitch influences of Manorville Major, Murlen's Slippy, Linda's Champion and Sand Man and you have an exceptionally pre-potent broodbith to go forward with.

Any doubt need only compare Bower Major's pedigree with that of Nifty Niamh dam of the great Premier Fantasy!

Eye Onthe Storm is one for the breeding faithful and purists!

Dedication of breeding to Take Murex

What to breed to in your pedigree?

I've spoken previously about what I've personally termed "elite international genes" (EIG's) and Take Murex is most certainly that...

Legendary Australian breeder Alan Wheeler took his top class racebitch Emiline Bale to Temlee concentrating one part of his pedigree to the legendary Take Murex family, through Temlee descending from the great Pigalle Wonder [Take Murex] sire line and Emiline Bale carrying the Take Murex family - result the greatest racebitch the Wheelers have bred - AGRA Hall of Fame member Winifred Bale.

Allan Wheeler then took Winifred Bale to leading sire Chariot Supreme - Take Murex's greatest sire line outside of Ireland - that of Waverly Supreme - result top class Penrith bitch Roma Bale.

Now with son Paul Wheeler at the helm, Roma Bale visits import sire Barney's Alarm - a reasonable if not moderate sire, heavily bred on the Take Murex family - from sire Satharn Beo a direct descendant of Take Murex to Waverly Supreme's brother Laurdella Fun and so on - resulting in a handy litter of males and containing a bitch named Alarming Bale.

Paul Wheeler then takes Alarming Bale to reasonable sire Faithful Hawk - at the time a sire carrying an above average number of lines of the Take Murex family - resulting in handy bitch Clementine Bale.

Paul Wheeler then takes Clementine Bale to now leading sire Where's Pedro and through the establishment or sheer persistence of breeding to Take Murex in his broodbitch Clementine Bale - combined with the emergence of leading sire Where's Pedro, carrying and bred on numerous lines of Take Murex - results in reportedly the fastest dog the Wheelers have bred and as of last Friday - 2009 Group 2 Geelong Cup winner GRIPEN BALE.

Gripen Bale is a great example of breeding to an "elite international" gene over generations. Whereby eventually a brood loaded with in this case Take Murex is waiting for an emerging star sire loaded with the exact same theme - to some just "lucky", others maybe somewhat an aligning of the stars or maybe just pure reward for dedication to the cause...

Droopys Scholes the dam sire...

Set to become a great dam sire?

Taking a look at Droopys Scholes' third generation - a good 8 lines to analyse.

Walkabout Sid: from the immortal Brother Fox x Promises Free litter - Walkabout Sid in his own right through Head Honcho, but also through his dam Promises Free and her brother Nation Parade - no peer in pre-potent broodbitch lines.

Fitzroy Lass: Head Honcho dam line and proving a global pre-potent broodbitch influence. In Ireland through pre-dominantly Top Honcho - but as has been seen through Go Wild Teddy dam sire of Faypoint Man - the common theme being Head Honcho. Not surprising when the Head Honcho tail line in recent years has produced Advert, Hades Rocket, Pure Inspiration to name a few.

Double Summit: an obscure name and gene to many. Brought to fame through the legendary Top Honcho - but further removed [Double Summit] traces back in tail line to the immortal Zulu Moss - the who's who of Australian greyhounds carry this family. Credibility, Just The Best, Bombastic Shiraz, Primo Uno, Elite State, Betty's Angel etc and we only scratch the surface of the importance of the Zulu Moss family.

Rainbow Bright: the tail dam line of Top Honcho and traces back in tail the the immortal Prairie Peg/Take Murex family. Like Zulu Moss above and even moreso, behind nearly every international great modern day greyhound. In modern times most notably through Waverly Supreme and Laurdella Fun.

I'm Slippy: "elite international gene" behind great greyhounds all over the world. Droopys Scholes carries this gene closes of modern day dam sires and that can only be seen as a positive for his daughters breeding on.

Druids Dalroy: having spoken about the negativity of this gene as far as sires go. Mainly in part to the belief this family is a highly pre-potent brood gene. Backed up by the fact Droopys Scholes dam Droopys Kristin was herself a great broodbitch. Augurs well for Scholes daughters breeding on. Further shown through Druids Dalroy descending from the Sandy Sally dam line producing Bypass Byway and further removed again the immortal Skipping Chick dam line. Arguably the greatest broodbitch line the world has seen - particularly in modern times.

Kyle Jack: immortal brood influence, behind any number of great broodbitches. Even more so in modern times through Kyle Jack's dam line of Lady Babra and the emergence of family member Farloe Melody coming to the fore in countless numbers of Australia's top broods - most notably the great Australian brood Elusive Rebel. But also through the likes of Cromlah Bale, Fenceline, Cyrus The Virus, Lansley Bale - in Lansley Bale himself a great broodbitch sire - and Farloe Melody or the shared Lady Babra gene with Kyle Jack and you have a serious pre-potent broodbitch influence.

Ballinderry Sand: the immortal broodbitch herself and tracing back to the legendary Ballinderry Moth and Skipping Chick, already mentioned above and all in all Droopys Scholes would appear to offer up an exciting mix for his daughters breeding on.

Freshman Sires Series (Killahan Phanter)

Droopys Kewell - leading sire and appearing as the best irish lined sire of sires, with sons Droopys Maldini and Droopys Scolari both doing a fine job at repelling the Australian stud invasion. If Killahan Phanter succeeds at stud, along with other Droopys Kewell sons - then there will be a strong case for Droopys Kewell as a leading sire of sires.

Come On Ranger - leading sire of his time, tracing back to Micklem Sand - a litter sister to the great sire Whisper Wishes. So you have consistent quality sires coming from this tail line and dam sire of Killahan Phanter.

Slaneyside Hare - leading sire in his day and himself a sire of sires [Some Picture, Deep Decision, He Knows, Vintage Prince, Knockeevan Star etc]. Though while not in that position in Killahan Phanter's pedigree - does appear in the dam line of stud dog Droopys Agassi - probably not a great endorsment for Killahan Phanter with Droopys Agassi proving a disappointment at stud. Though did sire the brilliant Droopys Electric and ill-fated Agassi's Ace [even V12 Pedigrees mating plan Lemonfield Daisy]. However, Droopys Agassi does come from that Droopys First tail line - a tail line behind a number of stud flops.

More significant is the sire from completely left field who was never given chance at stud Indian Ruler - who carrying and when bred 3x3 to Slaneyside Hare produced the Group 1 North West Oaks winner Calla Princess. Suggesting Slaneyside Hare can be seen very much as a positive or at the very least a complimentary component to a sires pedigree.

Daley's Gold - what is left to be said - great sire, great broodbitch influence found everywhere. Should be seen as a major positive and far enough back in Killahan Phanter's pedigree to not allow a broods pedigree loaded with the famed Skipping Chick dam line to be overly inbred.

Adraville Bridge - starting to emerge beind some notable sires. In particular Westmead Hawk and his close family relation before him Knockeevan Star [carrying Slaneyside Hare]. Seen more as complimentary, but nonetheless a gene that would appear to be somewhat significant, when you consider classic winner Accordello is bred on and carries a duplication of Adraville's Bridge.

Moral Support - leading sire and broodbitch influence. Who apparently was very fussy when it came to serving the ladies - nontheless of the ones he did fancy, produced some great greyhounds the likes of Manorville Major, Druids Lodge, Tracy Budd and last but not least Fly Cruiser - winner of the 1990 Irish Cesarewitch and 1991 Guinness 600 at Shelbourne Park in track record time. Who in turn [Fly Cruiser] sired Popov, the 1995 Regal 600 winner; Shelbourne 575y track record holder and runner up in the Irish Champion Stakes. Significantly Fly Cruiser is a litter-brother to Killahan Phanter's 5th dam Under The Clock.

Whisper Wishes - great sire and broodbitch influence, found in any number of great sires.

Bright Silver - significantly a litter-sister to Silver Hope and Yanka Boy and 1/2 brother to Faithful Hope, but Bright Silver is a foundation tap-root female herself (see below) - Silver Hope was a great sire descending from the legendary Millie's May tail line. Along with Yanka Boy as a brood influence, behind a number of successful modern day sires such as Droopys Maldini, Roanokee, Ballymac Maeve etc.

Killahan Phanter a Group 1 winner himself comes from an exceptional dam line - with such notables along his tail line - Plastercene Gem (sire), Lenson Express, Lenson Earl, Dunhill, Deerfield Bypass, Skywalker Prince, Supplement, Fly Cruiser (sire), Strange Twist, Lauragh Six right the way back to Irish dog of year Yanka Boy, Silver Hope, Faithful Hope. From separate branches [Perfect Anna], the likes of Shaneboy Lee, Mountleader Peer, Mounleader Omar, Shelbourne Becky, Hillcroft Josie, Shanless Park, Scarty Lad and Aereal View.

All in all it would appear Killahan Phanter offers plenty of positives to suggest at the very least he bares close watching in his freshman year.

Freshman Sires (College Causeway)

Go Wild Teddy: has for the most part produced that lone "freak" of a greyhound in College Causeway - in turn a lone commercial Go Wild Teddy son at stud [anywhere in the world]. The biggest attribute credited to Go Wild Teddy, is his ability to impart speed and chase into his offspring. College Causeway certainly has chase in abundance. But, it would appear his strength has come from his Minnie's Nikita dam line - responsible for producing the brilliant sire Spiral Nikita - himself noted for strength while racing and as a sire source of strength. Will this mix of Go Wild Teddy speed and chase and Minnie's Nikita strength, allow for a leading sire? If nothing else it's an intriguing mix - not dissimilar to Premier Fantasy's pedigree make up.

Staplers Jo: faultless part to College Causeway's pedigree. Whether it be as a sire line through the great Larkhill Jo, Droopys Kewell and continued to Droopys Maldini and Droopys Scolari or as an immortal dam sire in the likes of the ill-fated sire Razldazl Billy. Plenty of evidence to suggest Staplers Jo adds plenty of strength to College Causeways future stud career.

Phantom Flash: found most notably in Spiral Nikita, but more and more in leading race dogs and sires. The most notable being the brilliant sire Ballymac Maeve. More significance is Phantom Flash's tail line of Westmead Satin - aka the tail line of the legendary stud dog Larkhill Jo. This dam line along with Skipping Chick has no peer when duplicated or further line bred. And as such should again be seen as a strong selling point to College Causeway's chances of success at stud.

Curryhills Fox: from here on in it could just be said College Causeway's 2nd dam is a litter-sister to the great race and stud dog Spiral Nikita. And as such his chances of success at stud, would appear better than average. But, nonetheless the rest of his pedigree is worthy of praise. So, Curryhills Fox aka the immortal Skipping Chick dam line, when duplicated, triplicated and so on can be found in any number of modern day greats.

Hurry On Bran: a more obscure gene, but one becoming increasingly significant. Hurry On Bran found in successful sires Spiral Nikita and Droopys Vieri - has shown its powerful potential through a number of Droopys Maldini offspring containing the duplication of Hurry On Bran - such as Droopys Carvalho, Droopys Mal, Hospital Pass etc.

Sally's Gossip: immortal dam line and a dam line behind a number of successful sires around the world - such as the aforementioned Spiral Nikita, Share Profit, Roy Trease, Stoney, Flag Star, Printer's Prince, Deep North, Patricia's Hope etc

Freshman Sires (Ardkill Jamie)

Top Savings - Ardkill Jamie is by far the best son of the brilliantly fast, somewhat moderatley performed sire Top Savings. Question mark whether Top Savings will prove to be a sire of sire through Ardkill Jamie. Though in his defence, Top Savings is a son of the great Top Honcho, carries Sand Man and is a direct tail line decendent of the legendary influence Quare Fire.

Droopys Fintan - the biggest hurdle for Ardkill Jamie to overcome is his dam sire Drooys Fintan. Known as the brilliant Droopys First dam line - this dam line is found in any number of moderatley performed sires such as - El Premier, Rectabond Rebel, Droopys Sandy, Cool Performance, Droopy's Agassi - just a few sires with this Pony Nikita/Droopy's First lineage in their pedigrees and all moderately performed sires. Again as mentioned previously in an earlier article, it will be interesting to see if this gene lends itself more to broodbitch lines, rather than top shelf sire material. Very possible, when you consider Droopys First descends from the immortal broodbitch and influence “Skipping Chick” - a family capable of producing a sire such as the great Daley’s Gold, but for whatever reasons this branch [Droopys First] hasn’t.

Adraville Bridge - and we start to see some real sire strength, though until Wetsmead Hawk entered the sire ranks, Adraville Bridge has had mixed results in sires pedigrees - with the brilliant Climate Control carrying Adraville Bridge and whilst having his moments [Wise Thought, Jesse Bale] hasn't really set the world on fire at stud. The best carrying the [Adraville Bridge] influence would appear related to Westmead Hawk, in the form of Knockeevan Star - suggesting Adraville Bridge is seen to be of relative importance...complimentary, rather than the leading gene to base a successful stud career upon.

Spring Season - the mother of the legendary Some Picture - himself a great ill-fated sire and a great tail line in her own right.

All in all Ardkill Jamie's pedigree gives off mixed signals, to whether he will or won't be a success at stud. Maybe a wait and see approach with this undoubtedly great race dog.

Freshman Sires Series (Goldstar Lee)

To many breeders unproven "freshman" sires provide a minefield to whether they will or won't succeed at stud. Already I've written about "sire families" producing or not producing leading sires. So for the next month or so shall analyse some of the new kids on the block. First one to bare closer scrutiny is Goldstar Lee;

Goldstar Lee was a brilliantly fast early paced greyhound, whose biggest win came in the Group 1 Joe Dunne Memorial. A "freshman" sire with a faultless if not intriguing pedigree.

Sired by Brett Lee - fast becoming a great sire of sires. Somewhat expected such is the class of sire that is Brett Lee, with a countless number of sons at stud across the globe - far too many to mention here. But, along with the numbers, just about every Brett Lee sire at stud, whether in his home country of Australia, Ireland, UK or the USA has a headline talking dog. So Goldstar Lee sired by Brett Lee could only be seen as a positive. Whether this will change with some of Brett Lee's later stud rank additions in years to come time will tell.

Out of a Top Honcho brood - so straight away we have Brett Lee over Top Honcho - arguably the two greatest sires Ireland/UK has seen the past 10 years. Something that no doubt hasn't gone unnoticed, judging by the number of breeders who have used Goldstar Lee.

Murlen's Slippy - now Goldstar Lee starts to become somewhat fortified as a sire. Not that Murlen's Slippy guarantees stud success. However, a number of sires, both commercial and non-commercial carry this great sire in his own right - the likes of Droopys Kewell descending from a litter sister to Murlen's Slippy to Droopys Maldini/Droopys Scolari, Premier Fantasy...surprise packet Ballymac Maeve - even the obscure sire True Honcho carries Murlen's Slippy close up in his pedigree.

Whisper Wishes - a further great sire, great broodbitch sire and significant player in a number of leading sires - such as modern day sire Westmead Hawk carrying two crosses of Whisper Wishes.

Linda's Champion - legendary broodbitch influence, however combined with Goldstar Lee's 5th dam Ballinderry Moth - sees [Westpark Goldie] a litter sister to the great race and stud dog Daley's Gold.

By all reports Goldstar Lee has been very busy since his induction into the stud ranks and through his faultless pedigree, probably doesn't come as a surprise he has been patronised as well as he has.

Romeo Expert

Some people have asked why is Romeo Expert so good and whether there is any software behind V12 Pedigrees. My reply below to V12 Pedigrees choice of Collision for broodbitch Fabulous March resulting in Group 1 winner and track record holder Romeo Expert;

No breeding software rather Romeo Expert was created through a full understanding of what I term “elite international genes” [EIG's] – genes proven to deliver “superstar” results. Romeo Expert through his international pedigree is loaded with EIG’s…here's a little snippet to the workings behind V12 Pedigrees Group 1 winning track record holder...

Awesome Assassin - former holder of 8 track records is bred on the cross of Satan’s Legend and Ungwilla Lad – the key to these two genes, being they are two of the greatest carriers of the Brenda Gay family – know as the modern day and dominant Paul Wheeler “Bale” line. Crossed with the identically bred on the Satan’s Legend / Ungwilla Lad cross Roanokee (additionally 4x4 New Tears see below in Dasher’s Bow). So in effect Romeo Expert intensifies the brilliance of 8x track record holder/Group 1 winner Awseome Assassin and multiple Group 1 winner Roanokee.

This is further evident in 5 x track record holder Whisky Assassin who decends from the Brenda Gay tail line and modern day “Bale” family sired by Awesome Assassin himself.

Dasher’s Bow – as mentioned above 4x4 New Tears – New Tears is the greatest Australian carrier of this well and truly established "elite international gene" – with Fast March [Airport Express] herself bred on and a strong carrier of the Mystery Gift [Dasher’s Bow] family and Collision himself bred on and carrying multiple lines of the Mystery Gift family and already you have well suited match between sire and dam.

Come On Wonder/Grove Whisper – through key shared genes of Quare Fire and Glittering Look this cross is behind track record holders and out and out freaks such as Whisky Assassin (see above), Bond, and Most Awesome.

Pitstock Park/Spiral Nikita – the key being Pitstock Park is loaded with Which Chariot, who carries compatibility to some of Irelands most influential “coursing” lines and with Spiral Nikita himself bred on the cross of compatible lines of brothers Kerry Wonder and Swanky Pa [among others] - the influence of this match can now be seen in 2009 through Fatboyz Nodrog, Cosmic Rumble, Dusty Retreat, Magic Capers, Mack’s Bounty, College Causeway and so on.

There you have a little insight into why Romeo Expert is so good…he really is loaded with some sensational bloodlines...

What is it with Droopys First and Sandy Sally?

El Premier, Rectabond Rebel, Droopys Sandy, Cool Performance, Droopy's Agassi - just a few sires with this Pony Nikita/Droopy's First lineage in their pedigrees. And all moderately performed sires - will be interesting to see if this gene lends itself more to broodbitch lines, rather than top shelf sire material. Very possible, when you consider Droopys First descends from the immortal broodbitch and influence “Skipping Chick” - a family capable of producing a sire such as the great Daley’s Gold, but for whatever reasons this branch [Droopys First] hasn’t. Particularly topical with newly imported [Australian] sire Rumble Impact, recently arriving in Ireland and descending from the Pony Nikita/Droopys First tail line.

Equally with current racetrack stars Farloe Reason, Ninja Jamie and Shaneboy Lee all potentially future sires, carrying Sandy Sally [Druids Lodge] – another [Skipping Chick] gene behind moderately performed sires Bypass Byway, Droopys Scholes, Mineola Farloe and Mountleader Peer.

What do many modern day great sires have in common?

Answer – a family history of top class sires.

For example; the great Top Honcho descends from the Take Murex family – one of the truly great sire families, having produced the likes of Pigalle Wonder, Prairie Flash, Waverly Supreme, The Grand Silver, Daring Dandy and numerous other successful sires.

The leading Australian sire line to day Credibility comes from the obscure “Lady Bel Air” family. But a family which produced Wild Occasion, who in turn sired World Conquest – former holder of the 457m world record at 25.80sec. Delving further back, Credibility decends from the Blue Linen tail line – a dam line responsible for leading sire Fine Linen...sire of the immortal Black Top – Black Top himself inbred to Blue Linen, through brother/sister combination of Fine Linen and Yulalla, was himself a champion sire. Sire of the legendary Zoom Top.

Great Irish/UK sire Droopys Vieri traces back in tail line to Tintamarre (Tanist x Mad Darkie) a litter-sister to the great sire Mad Tanist.

Leading Irish/UK sire Droopys Kewell descends from the immortal Millie’s May tail line – a sire family which has produced any number of leading sires across the globe, such as Silver Hope (Ire/UK), Tivoli Dreamer (Aus) and Fortress (USA).

Droopys Maldini & Droopys Scolari trace back to the Favourite Tip dam line a dam line which has produced leading sires Knockrour Again and Glittering Look

Modern day great Australian sires Token Prince and Just The Best descend from the legendary race and broodbitch Bay Road Queen – a dam line which produced quality sire Captain Standby, but most significantly Bay Road Queen traces back to the legendary broodbitch Gorgeous Babe – arguably the greatest sire family the world has seen – through great Australian sire Magic Babe and leading US sire Tell You Why – Tell You Why dam sire of the immortal sires Rooster Cogburn and Sand Man. Import pioneer Frightful Flash also descends from Rocket Jet x Gorgeous Babe [Early Jet]. Further removed to Daisy Valley leading sires Fawn Scout and Second Stage.

Bombastic Shiraz traces back to Zulu Moss – a sire family which has produced numerous leading sires, such as Worth Doing, Chief Dingaan, Riviera Tiger, Casino Tom – even the obscure Dagenham, a complete non-commercial sire produced exceptionally well and can be found in leading sire Elite State. Zulu Moss tracing back to Cursorial - dam of leading sire New Mariner.

Somewhat of a surprise packet, but excellent sire Solve The Puzzle traces back to “Million Dollar Girl” – tail line which also produced a quality sire in Star Title.

Black Shiraz traces back to the imported brood Tapestry – a tail line responsible for numerous leading sires, such as – Tangaloa, Tangairn, Gold Grotto, Primo Uno etc.

Leading sire Light Of Fire traces back to Centrefire sister to leading Australian sire Shining Chariot. Also, from the same Princess Diro family, leading sire Bowetzel – all tracing back to the legendary Dechmont family – a family behind great sires Tullera Lad and The Marne – The Marne bred on a duplication of Dechmont.

Head Honcho traces back to the “Black & White Flash” tail line – a line which has produced leading sire Eaglehawk Star - a tail line which traces back to the imported brood Phar’s Reminder – descendants of this broodbitch include a who’s who of Australian sires, such as - Brett Lee, Awesome Assassin and Elite State.

Come On Ranger traces back to Kilcomney Hostess - a dam line behind successful even great sires Cheerful Chariot and the immortal Whisper Wishes.

Westmead Hawk - new kid on the block, who has created a stir - traces back to Ruby's Bridge - tail line of successful, even somewhat underrated sire Knockeevan Star. Further removed back to Lady Expert and succesful sires Jimsun and Monalee Expert.

Then of course there are families, which while they have their moments consistently perform at a lower level to the great sire families – most notably in recent years is Premier Fantasy – whilst a good sire of open/city class, something to be respected – still after 1600 offspring across the globe, only has two Group 1 winners to his name – Fear Zafonic (UK), out of the great broodbitch Farloe Oyster and restricted Galway (Ire) bitches winner Slick Sioux. Something consistent in recent times from what is unquestionably a great dam line – best know as the “Burnpark” tail line – a dam line which has produced greats Talentedmrripley (USA) and Chart King (UK/Ire) - both most notably major flops at stud.

Another great dam line – which while it has its sire moments, hasn’t proven to be a great sire family is the “Bale” line – with Lansley Bale being the best of the family – around any number of poorly performed family members.

Others;

Bond already has his detractors. Yet when you consider his family history, he is likely to be a handy sire, rather than a great sire - with in recent times moderately performed sires Ultimate Wish and Ultra Desire.

The Travelling Girl dam line another which hasn't set the world on fire in the stud ranks. With probably the best in recent years being New Fox and Royal Impact in Ireland. Though Burst Asunder did produce the brilliant Super Burst.

Again, Bit Chili will be the next sire on the chopping block, with a number of moderately performed sires in his family - the likes of Modern Assassin, Modern Express, Modern Gossip and Malawi Law. The exceptions being Golden Currency for a brief time leading "city/open" sire at Wentworth Park and of course Honcho Classic has been a decent sire in Ireland, but would have been a non-commercial entity in Australia and debatable whether he would have reached any great heights in his homeland. So fair play to these type of sires getting their chance in other countries.

Maybe it’s just coincidence, but nontheless a phenomenon this writer finds intriguing, if nothing else. It will be interesting to see where the next great sire comes from and which family he will descend from.

Staplers Jo

Staplers Jo sired by the unfashionable Dempsey Duke was a great race dog who became a great sire and just as great broodbitch influence. Taking a look at Staplers Jo’s 3rd generation [a good eight lines to analyse], we get a good insight into Staplers Jo;

It’s Ballyhenry - descends from the immortal Millie’s May tail line – a dam line behind any number of champions, both in tail and through duplication and generalization of the worlds greyhound population – Droopys Maldini and Premier Fantasy, two of the greatest modern examples.

Glenduff Castle – sired by Tom’s Pal who in turn descends from the great sire and broodbitch influence “That Magpie From Knockane” seen to great effect through quality sire and broodbitch influence Moral Support e.g. Dianas Ranger [Killahan Phanter], Shaneboy Ruth [Shaneboy Lee] N.B. carrying a duplication of “That Magpie From Knockane” ditto for Sporting Cleo [Geldrop’s Touch], Mountleader Emer [Mountleader Peer], Droopys Kirstin [Droopys Scholes], Sandy Penny [Bypass Byway] and Moneypoint Coal such as Fast Issue [Top Savings] – further removed “That Magpie From Knockane” decends from the immortal brood influence “Quare Fire”.

Furthermore: Glenduff Castle decends from the immortal brood influence Sally’s Gossip a direct tail dam line behind such greats as Spiral Nikita, Tina Marina, Marinas Tina, College Causeway to name but a few. Closer still [Glenduff Castle] decends from the Sally’s Dreamer branch of Sally’s Gossip a shared dam line with such notable brood influences Roy Trease (Aus), Stoney (Aus), Deep North (Aus), BJ's Justin (USA), Share Profit (USA), Flag Star (Aus/Ire/UK) and Patricia’s Hope (Ire/UK) all found in such greats as Head Honcho (Aus), Frightful Flash (Aus/Ire/UK), Made To Size (Aus), Flying Penske (USA), Kiowa Sweet Trey (USA), Primo Uno (Aus) and Droopys Kewell (Ire/UK). Interestingly, Roy Trease and Stoney both in Honcho Classic and Honcho Classic is proving not only a fine sire, but a notable broodbitch sire.

Echo’s Spark/Ballinderry Moth – descend from the immortal broodbitch and influence Skipping Chick – a gene as like Millie’s May generalized throughout the world’s greyhound population. With Staplers Jo carrying two lines of Skipping Chick, the latter through the legendary sire and broodbitch influence Daley’s Gold – the potency to Stapler’s Jo can not be ignored.

Linda’s Champion – sire of the aforementioned Daley’s Gold and an influential international brood influence in his own right.

Dame Noodle – direct tail line of Staplers Jo’s sire Dempsey Duke – decends from the immortal Knockrour Favourite tail line. An influence which has generalized itself across the worlds greyhound population. Best seen in modern day times as the legendary broodbitch influence Lisnakill Flyer – the tail dam line of Droopys Maldini, Droopys Marco, Droopys Scolari, Daley’s Denis, Shanless Slippy.

Knockrour Slave – as Dame Noodle traces back in tail line to Knockrour Favourite and even closer matched through litter-mates Knockrour Exile and Knockrour Last.

A Fright – traces back to Salubrious Lady - dam line of Wise Band and current leading Irish dog Callums Lad. The Salubrious Lady influence is best seen through its duplication in Blue Gooner and broodbitch Cabra Dancer [Cabra Cool, Cabra Boss, Cabra Tiny] and of course through it’s greatest influence Staplers Jo...continuing on as a breed shaper in stars such as the aforementioned Scottish Derby winner Cabra Cool and Thurlesbeg Joker. But, also through Satharn Beo - seen in She Knew [Farloe Verdict], daughter Crazy Jane [Eden Brett], Centenarys Dream [Frisby Flashing] and Clobanna Cailin [Headford Daddy]. Furthermore, through leading Australian broodbitch influence Barney's Alarm [Arvo's Junior, Hades Rocket, Fancy Penny, Our Barney, Regal Tiger, Hades Comet, Decathlon, Pure Inspiration, Mirella Bale, Elgrando Gold, Bye Bye Bones etc].

Mega Delight

Analysis of one of the greatest broodbitches of all time...

Smooth Rumble is loaded with two of the greatest broodbitch influences ever seen in Australia – namely Temlee and Waverly Supreme. Smooth Rumble also comes from as dominant a dam line in Australia today – Follow Through. So is it any wonder Smooth Rumble is the dam sire of such elite greyhounds as Westmead Hawk, Westmead Joe, Westmead Lord, Charity Jack, Lenson Joker, Boherna On Air, Team Record, Thurlesbeg Joker and Rumble Impact to name a few. The latter Rumble Impact showing the powerful influence of Follow Through – being bred on a prominent 3x3 cross of Follow Through. The influence of Brother Fox [in Follow Through] is as dominant a global brood influence there is and can be found in any number of great broods, through any number of different influences.

Mustang Jack: a somewhat “smokey” of a brood influence, but one from absolutely top of the tree. Mustang Jack is not only the dam sire of Mega Delight, but also dam sire of great broods Blackstone Sky and You Said So to name three. Mustang Jack sired by Skellig’s Tiger aka the Lemon Soda dam line – seen in Farloe Dingle through sister Grenfield Chick, Dianas Ranger and great modern day brood influence Spiral Nikita – through Skellig’s Tiger’s brother Curryhills Fox - both tracing back to the immortal brood influence Skipping Chick. Mustang Jack also descends from the immortal broodbitch of the year Westmead Move [Satin] dam line – a dam line also shared with the greatest broodbitch influence in the UK/Ire today Larkhill Jo. A good explanation why Mega Delight’s dam Knockeevan Joy was a fine broodbitch in her own right. This [Mustang Jack] influence continues on in 2009 through classic producing dam Coffee In Brazil - [Accordello] bred on the cross of Mustang Jack and Bandicoot Lola [Bandicoot Tipoki], Riverside Bella [Broadacres Turbo], Liscahane Ranger [Headley’s Bridge].

Adraville Bridge: has proven to be a great broodbitch influence – being dam sire of such notables as Climate Control, Knockeevan Star, Miss Wonderful, Staley Vegas, Droopys Zidane, Axle Grease, Noirs Ted and Graysland Pixie. Significantly, Adraville Bridge can be found in modern day great broods as Mega Delight, Dianas Ranger [Killahan Phanter] and further removed broods Fast Issue [Ardkill Jamie], Owen Rover [St Louis Spirit], Kehers Friend [Brickfield Class, Brickfield Dream, Skywalker Melody], Affleck Patsy [Affleck Elite], Mind The Way [Line Of Fire, Cleenas Lady] – even seen in broodbitch Badtoe [Phoenix Paddy] with the combined Westmead Satin [Mustang Jack] and descending from the Milltown Gem [Adraville Bridge] tail line.

Whisper Wishes: one of the greatest broodbitch sires and has transcended his influence to other countries. That should say it all when mentioning the great sire and broodbitch sire Whisper Wishes. However, when you see he is sired by Sand Man, in turn carrying arguably the greatest broodbitch influence the world has seen – namely the gene of Rocket jet x Gorgeous Babe – crossed over a Lively Band broodbitch and these two gene s [Rocket Jet x Gorgeous Babe and Lively Band] can be found in any number of great "outside" broodbitch lines – the likes of the famed Bay Road Queen dam line [Flying Amy, Tenthill Doll, Just The Best, Token Prince etc] and Elusive Rebel [Hallucinate, Crash, Where’s Pedro, Pure Octane]. When you have champion producers outside of its place of origin - the influence is extremely impressive!

Linda’s Champion: mentioned in Farloe Dingle as a significant brood influence and behind the great brood influence of Daley’s Gold – Linda’s Champion is a powerful broodbitch influence.

The Tarado Influence...

A gene fast becoming an elite “international” influence and somewhat from left field in recent years, has a far richer history…

In 2009 we see The Tarado gene in such greats:

Bit Chili (ex Elle’s Commando/Tarado)
Whippy’s Image (ex Elle’s Comando/Tarado)
Spiritual Cloud (ex Elle’s Commando/Tarado)

Smart Betsy (ex ex Elle’s Commando/Tarado)

Big Moose/Akka Boy (ex Elle’s Dominator/Tarado)
Light Ice Lad (ex Elle’s Dominator/Tarado)

Queen Lauryn (ex Bright Ebony/Elle’s Comando/Tarado)
Mogambo (ex Bright Ebony/Elle’s Commando/Tarado)

Barefoot Bryan (ex Jamella Prince/Tarado)
Rio Quando (ex Jamella Prince/Tarado)
Blonde Fern (ex Jamella Prince/Tarado)
Rebel Kewell (ex Jamella Prince/Tarado)
Rebel Brett (ex Jamella Prince/Tarado)

Shanlyn Prince (ex Wild Season/Tarado)
High Earner (ex Wild Season/Tarado)
Boozeroo (ex Wild Season/Tarado)

Courtesy of an old QLD Journal article back in 2003...

"The most successful [Australian] damline was Little Gorgeous (better known to many as the “Osti” line) with 14 feature winners followed by Gail’s Beauty with 13, Marungi Girl (8), Mabel Alice (6), Tarado (6), Freckled Pick(5), Model Donna (5) and Sancerie (5)".

In 2009 these are the who’s who of Australian dam lines…

Little Gorgeous - Osti
Gail's Beauty - Bale
Marungi Girl - I'm Blessed
Mabel Alice - Spanish Dance
Tarado - Elle's Commando, Wild Season, Jamella Prince [great dam sires]
Freckled Pick - Travelling Girl
Sancerie - National Lass/Leprechaun Yap

The Tarado dam line while somewhat obscure, traces back to the immortal broodbitch Hamura Belle. Here are just a few examples from the 60s and 70s:

Dynamic Dean - Melbourne Cup, Victorian Greyhound of the Year
Ragsie - Association Cup, NSW Greyhound of the Year
Lady Of Rome - Sandown Laurels
Shan's Tempest - Maturity Stake
Fairbairn Lady - Hobart Thousand
Take A Bow - Australian Cup
Harem Belle - Harold Park track record
The Stripper - Sandown track record
Cheltenham Lass - 1966 Melbourne Cup, Sandown Laurels
Saskaview - 1963 Melbourne Cup
Saskagay - 1962 Melbourne Cup

The fact the Hamura Belle dam line has generalized itself across the greyhound breed through the likes of Fairbairn Lady sons Dynamic Dean and Del Bairn - potentially making them superior dam sires or at the very least having a major influence behind a number of out and out superstars the past couple of years. And with the likes of Jamella Prince, Malawi’s Prince, Frightful Flash, Brett Lee, Go Wild Teddy, Just The Best, Collision, Ace Hi Rumble all leading carriers of the Tarado/Hamura Belle influence – this gene is set to become an elite “international” gene, if not already, with a number of smart Aus/Ire/UK performers carrying this influence…

Farloe Dingle the Legacy...

This great broodbitch [line], we see traces back in tail to the immortal Glenroe Bess line – best known in modern times as dam of the immortal I’m Slippy. With I’m Slippy a dominant gene and fast becoming an elite “international” gene – Farloe Dingle comes from and therefore carries a superior influential gene.

Moving back to her 3rd line [a good eight lines to analyse] from the top we see Farloe Dingle carries The Stranger who traces back to the immortal Last Landing family – one of the greatest elite “international” genes.

Jim’s Lady – dam of Tapwatcher and tracing back to the “Callus” family - a real elite “international” gene best known through the Mad Darkie tail line. This line is seen best in modern day through the great sire and broodbitch sire Droopys Vieri.

Druids Lodge – known as the great Sandy Sally, Ballybeg Moth, Flying Lady and best known as the immortal Skipping Chick tail line and behind any number of champions. Has shown itself to be a great broodbitch influence (see Bypass Byway, Droopys Scholes etc)

Mountleader Glow – best known as the Perfect Anna, Millie Hawthorn, Glittering Millie, Millie’s May, Racing May tail line and arguably has no peer as the elite “international” gene.

Linda’s Champion – a great broodbitch influence tracing back to the great elite “international” gene of Mad Tanist x Cottage Daisy and carrying multiple impact genes of Quare Fire and Baytown Coak.

Lin’s Chick – dam of Glen Park Dancer and tracing back to the aforementioned immortal influence Skipping Chick.

Kyle Jack – Irish Derby winner, tracing back to what is fast become an elite “international” gene through his dam Lady Babra (Farloe Melody in Crash, Hallucinate, Where’s Pedro etc). But Kyle Jack himself has proven to be a great broodbitch influence (see Some Picture, Annie’s Bullet etc).

Milwaukee Lady - mentioned above, but a fine broodbicth herself.

Farloe Dingle is certainly a case of being highly “pre-potent” – never more evidence in 2009 when you take a look at top dams’ Dianas Ranger and Shaneboy Ruth also carrying very similar lines through their pedigrees!

So one would think the likes of “future” Farloe Reason, Killahan Phanter, Mineloa Farloe, Hondo Dingle, Shaneboy Lee etc females, should breed on rather well – if the evidence above is any guide…certainly shouldn’t hurt their chances…
